1. Who We Are
Hiring Heroes ("we," "us," "our") operates an online marketplace connecting homeowners with firefighter service professionals. Our platform is accessible at hiring-heroes.com.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly when creating an account or using the Platform:
- Account information: First name, last name, email address, phone number, and password (stored as a secure hash — never in plain text).
- Provider profile information: Fire department affiliation, years of service, city, state, ZIP code, bio, service categories, and profile and portfolio photos.
- Usage data: Pages visited, session activity timestamps, and browser/device type collected automatically via server logs.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account
- To display Provider profiles to Consumers
- To communicate with you about your account or the Platform
- To enforce our Terms of Service
- To improve the Platform and troubleshoot issues
4. Session Cookies & Security
We use session cookies to keep you logged in. These cookies are:
- Session-only: They expire when your browser closes or after a period of inactivity (whichever comes first).
- Secure and HttpOnly: They cannot be accessed by JavaScript and are only transmitted over HTTPS.
- Automatically expired: Sessions are terminated after 2 hours of inactivity as a security measure.
Important: If you use the Platform on a shared or public device, you must log out manually when finished. We are not responsible for unauthorized account access resulting from failure to log out on a shared device. See our Terms of Service for full details.
5. We Do Not Sell Your Data
Hiring Heroes does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes.
6. Data Sharing
We do not share your personal information with third parties except:
- When required by law or valid legal process
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of Hiring Heroes, our users, or the public
- With service providers who assist in operating the Platform (such as hosting providers) under confidentiality agreements
7. Provider Profile Visibility
Provider profiles — including name, city, state, fire department, bio, services, and photos — are visible to registered Consumers on the Platform. Phone and email are visible to logged-in Consumers only. Do not include sensitive personal information in your public bio or profile.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
9. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, hashed passwords, HttpOnly session cookies, and upload directory restrictions. However, no system is completely secure. You use the Platform at your own risk.
10. Children's Privacy
The Platform is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us at admin@j-atchison.com.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email or a notice on the Platform. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
